The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has sanctioned a major infrastructure initiative worth Rs4.2 billion aimed at rehabilitating and modernising four key road corridors across the city. The approval was granted during a high-level meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
According to city officials, the project will focus on improving Rashid Minhas Road, S.M. Taufique Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, and Pehalwan Goth Road. The planned upgrades are designed to ease traffic congestion, enhance road durability, and improve overall commuting conditions for residents.
In addition to resurfacing and structural repairs, the project will address long-standing sewerage issues along these routes. Authorities have also confirmed that the development plan includes landscaping, the creation of green belts, and the installation of improved traffic signage and lane markings to enhance road safety and aesthetics.
A breakdown of the allocated funds shows that Rs1.9 billion has been earmarked for Pehalwan Goth Road, while Rashid Minhas Road will receive Rs1.12 billion. Sir Shah Suleman Road has been allocated Rs574 million, and S.M. Taufique Road will undergo improvements worth Rs429 million.
Mayor Wahab has directed relevant departments to commence work without delay, stressing the need for visible progress in the shortest possible time. He also highlighted that additional infrastructure projects, including the upcoming opening of the Karimabad underpass, form part of broader efforts to tackle Karachi’s traffic challenges.
City officials say the initiative reflects KMC’s commitment to providing smoother travel, improved urban infrastructure, and a cleaner, greener environment for Karachi’s residents.
