Karachi Man Receives E-Challan for Motorcycle Stolen Two Years Ago

04 January, 2026 18:57

A Karachi resident was surprised to receive an e-challan for his motorcycle, which had been stolen over two years ago and reported to the police through a formal FIR.

The owner revealed that his motorcycle was stolen on December 7, 2023, from the Liaquatabad area, and a case was registered immediately. Despite completing all legal formalities, the vehicle was never recovered.

However, on December 28, 2025, he received an e-challan of Rs5,000 citing a helmet violation near the National Stadium Flyover. The affected citizen has now appealed to police authorities to take action for the recovery of his stolen motorcycle.

This is not an isolated case. In November last year, a five-star hotel received an e-challan of Rs10,000 for a car stolen 28 years ago. The vehicle had been taken from a parking area near Sharea Faisal in May 1997, with an FIR registered at Saddar Police Station at the time. The e-challan was issued for a seatbelt violation recorded at the Hub Toll Plaza.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Police Pir Muhammad Shah recently highlighted a growing issue with fake or tampered vehicle number plates since the introduction of the e-challan system. “Many motorists have started using counterfeit or concealed number plates to avoid traffic fines,” he said.
