An astronomer has shared predictions regarding the expected dates of major Islamic occasions, including the start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha in Pakistan, based on lunar calculations.
According to the astronomer, the sighting of the Ramadan moon is expected to occur on February 18. “The Ramadan moon could be sighted on February 18. It is therefore highly likely that 1st Ramadan would be on February 19.” If this prediction holds, Muslims across the country would begin fasting a day later.
The astronomer further explained that the moon of Shawwal is likely to be visible on March 20. As a result, “It means the moon of Shawwal can be sighted on March 20; therefore, the date of Eid al-Fitr might fall on March 21.” However, the final announcement will depend on official moon sighting confirmations.
Regarding Eid al-Adha, the expert stated that the beginning of Dhu al-Hijjah is expected on May 17. Based on this calculation, “The 1st of Dhu al-Hijjah will take place on May 17, so the date of Eid al-Adha might fall on May 27.”
It is important to note that these dates are based on astronomical forecasts, while the official observance of Islamic events in Pakistan is determined by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following moon sightings.
