DG ISPR Slams KP Govt Over Opposition to Anti-Terror Ops

06 January, 2026 14:45

Briefing senior journalists on the security forces’ operations in 2025, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that highly successful counter-terrorism operations were conducted throughout the year. In 2025, security agencies carried out 75,175 intelligence-based operations. Despite these efforts, 5,400 incidents of terrorism occurred, resulting in the martyrdom of 1,235 law enforcement officers and civilians.

The DG ISPR emphasized that the state remains fully committed to eliminating terrorism. He noted that Pakistan’s clear stance and decisive steps have been appreciated globally. He further clarified that the “Khawarij” (extremists) have no connection to the teachings of Islam.

A total of 5,397 active counter-terrorism operations were conducted this year alone. A significant point of concern is that 80% of terrorist incidents took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The Lieutenant General explained that the current political environment in KP has inadvertently provided fertile ground for these elements. Of the total operations conducted last year:

  • 14,658 were in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • 58,778 were in Balochistan.
  • 1,739 were in other parts of the country.

The Role of Afghanistan and the TTP

General Chaudhry highlighted that terrorism began to rise in 2021 following the change of government in Afghanistan and the subsequent Doha Agreement. Although the Afghan interim government made three primary promises in Doha—eliminating terrorism from their soil and ensuring women’s education—these commitments remain unfulfilled.

In 2025, security forces killed 2,597 terrorists. The DG ISPR stated that the “stronghold of the Khawarij” and Indian-backed sedition is rooted in Afghanistan, where terrorist organizations are being nurtured. Following border tensions in October last year, Pakistan repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to restrain these militants. When no action was taken, Pakistani forces targeted and neutralized several Afghan border posts within hours.

India‑Afghan Nexus

DG ISPR has declared that the terror network between India and Afghanistan is expanding and that Delhi and Kabul would suffer an “unimaginable defeat” if they attacked Pakistan together in 2026.

The briefing revealed that the Afghan Taliban is modeling the TTP after its own organizational structure to sustain a “war economy,” often utilizing the $7.2 billion worth of advanced weaponry left behind by US forces. Furthermore, evidence suggests that India continues to sponsor terrorism within Pakistan.

The DG ISPR also addressed modern tactical threats, noting that “foreigners” and “Khawarij” have begun using armed quadcopters for attacks, often operating from mosques or using women and children as human shields. In response, the Pakistan Army uses drones primarily for surveillance and ensures that only terrorists and their facilitators are targeted.

A National War

The Lieutenant General dismissed the narrative that this is solely the “Army’s war,” declaring it a war of the entire nation. He stressed that the National Action Plan must be implemented fully to prevent the scourge of terrorism from reaching schools, offices, and streets. He concluded by reiterating that the state will no longer engage in talks with those who take up arms against it, and the war against terrorism will be won through national strength and unity.

DG ISPR Slams KP CM’s Narrative on Militancy

The spokesperson of the Pakistan Army said that the Chief Minister is saying that Afghanistan should help us, that Kabul should guarantee our security. What kind of appeasement policy is this that you are asking Afghanistan to help us? The Chief Minister of KP is making a ridiculous statement. The narrative of the Chief Minister of KP has also come out openly. If there is no military operation, then we have to sit at the feet of the Khawarij. Should the foreigner Noor Wali Mastul be appointed as the Chief Minister of the province, and should he be sworn in, will God tell us what will happen in Charsadda?

Political parties and security forces have the same narrative in the war on terrorism. No one can fool us with the narrative of the war on terrorism.

DG ISPR said that this year, the message of Pakistan was reiterated; this clarity is also for the Ulema and Shaykhs. The second clarity came about the nexus between India and Fitna Al-Khawaj; the political parties and the security forces have the same narrative in the war against terrorism. No one can fool us with the narrative of the war on terror.

He said that the Afghan Taliban, Khawarij, and India nexus came to light in 2025. This year, some more subtle incidents have also come to light. A man sitting on Indian TV says that this time Afghanistan and India will attack Pakistan together. If Afghanistan and India come, they will fulfill their desire.

He further said, “Where was the so-called foreign minister of the Taliban during the clashes with the terrorists?” Their Islam says to fall at the feet of the Indians; there is no government in Afghanistan, but a small group is occupying it.

DG ISPR said that we have been saying for a long time that Afghanistan has become a hotbed of terrorism. Now the world is also saying that Afghanistan has become a hotbed of terrorism. Now Iran, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan are also saying that terrorist attacks are coming from Afghanistan. According to a UN report, 20 international terrorist organizations are active in Afghanistan.

He said that the entire nation and security forces are making sacrifices in the war against terrorism, and the government of a province says that we will not allow operations there, so do these people want to create a similar environment of terrorism as these terrorists martyred thousands of people in Swat?

He said that this time the narrative of such people has also come out in the open. These people have the same old political narrative. If someone asks them two or three questions, they have no answer. They want to become the approved view of the Khawarij.
