Pakistan Calls US Action in Venezuela Violation of UN Charter

06 January, 2026 10:30

Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the US military action in Venezuela, calling it a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and urging the international community to adopt a diplomatic path to reduce tensions.

Addressing an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the deteriorating situation in Venezuela, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative Usman Jadoon said that instability in the Caribbean region could prove dangerous not only for regional but also for global peace and security, especially at a time when the world is already facing multiple crises.

He said that the UN Charter obliges all states to refrain from the threat or use of force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, or political independence of any country, while interference in the internal affairs of any country cannot be permitted.

The Pakistani delegate made it clear that unilateral military actions violate not only the UN Charter but also the fundamental principles of state sovereignty. Such actions can undermine the international rules-based system.

Osman Jadoon warned that the consequences of the use of force could be long-term and unpredictable, leading to further instability and conflict in the future.

He stressed that dialogue, restraint, and diplomacy are the only effective way forward in the current delicate situation. Pakistan appealed to all parties to de-escalate tensions, exercise patience and restraint, and adhere to the principles of peaceful coexistence.
