Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 Challenged in Lahore High Court

Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 Challenged in Lahore High Court
LAHORE, January 8, 2026: The Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC), raising questions about the legality of the new law that permits kite flying in the province.
The petition was filed by a citizen, naming the federal government, the Chief Secretary Punjab, and other relevant authorities as respondents. The petitioner argued that the Act is unconstitutional and violates fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
The petitioner claimed that the state has a responsibility to protect citizens and ensure their safety. Previously, strict bans and heavy penalties were imposed on kite flying due to safety risks. The petition argued that allowing kite flying again could endanger lives, especially because of metallic and sharp kite strings that have caused injuries in the past.
The plea requested the court to suspend the notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner that permits kite flying until a final decision is made. The petitioner also urged the LHC to declare the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 null and void.
The Lahore High Court is expected to take up the petition for hearing in the coming days. Citizens and legal experts are closely following the case, as it may have a significant impact on public safety and kite flying regulations in Punjab.
