Netizens Criticize Neo TV Over ‘Umairy Leaks’ Interview

09 January, 2026 11:21

Pakistani media, increasingly losing relevance, has hit a new low by airing programs centered on explicit leaked videos and interviewing people involved in private acts.

Recently, a viral video dubbed ‘Umairy Leaks’ surfaced on social media, showing a 7-minute-and-11-second intimate encounter between a young couple, believed to have been recorded by themselves.

Instead of ignoring the explicit clip, local mainstream media went further. Neo News invited the woman featured in the video, along with her family, onto their show Pukaar for an interview.

Sarcastically, Pukaar is promoted as an investigative journalism program. Its anchor, Tehmina Sheikh, attempted to “investigate” the viral clip in what many viewers saw as an absurd effort to exploit the story for TRPs.

Senior journalist Shahid Aslam criticized the broadcast, writing:

“Whatever channel this woman works for, she should either learn basic journalistic ethics, or those who hired her should be ashamed. What kind of journalism is this, where a woman is subjected to indecent questioning while seated with her parents, cameras rolling, and vulgar questions being asked? A journalist must uphold at least the most basic professional responsibilities.”

Clips from the broadcast quickly went viral, triggering widespread condemnation across social media. Viewers accused both the anchor and the channel of indulging in yellow journalism, exploiting a woman’s trauma, and normalizing the public shaming of private individuals under the guise of news.
