Punjab announces relief for students during cold spell
LAHORE: The Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges) in Punjab has announced relief for students due to the severe cold wave affecting the province.
According to the notification, students of public colleges across Punjab are now allowed to wear warm clothes of any colour. This relaxation will remain in effect until February 28, 2026. Students can wear jerseys, sweaters, coats, jackets, caps, socks, and shoes to protect themselves from the cold.
The official notification stated, “Keeping in view the ongoing cold wave across the Punjab it has been desired by the Competent Authority that students of Public Sector Colleges may wear jersey/sweater/blazer/coat/jacket/cap/socks/ shoes of any colour till 28th February 2026. You are requested to kindly desiminate the said instructions to all the Deputy Director (Colleges)/Principals of Public/Private Colleges under your jurisdiction,”
This step has been welcomed by students and parents, as temperatures continue to remain very low in many areas of Punjab.
Punjab Winter Holidays Extension Update
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is also considering extending winter holidays for schools and colleges by one more week. This decision is being discussed due to the continued drop in temperatures across the province.
Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat is expected to chair an important meeting today (Saturday) at 3 p.m. to review weather conditions and meteorological reports before making a final decision.
Sources say the extension is being considered to ensure the safety and health of students. Many parents have also shown strong support for the move, expressing concern over their children’s well-being during the harsh cold.
Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has assured the public that the government’s top priority is the health and safety of students, and a final announcement will be made after careful review.
