Experts Label KP CM’s Statements on Afghan Terror Highly Irresponsible

12 January, 2026 17:08

Recent statements made by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding evidence of terrorism have been characterized by experts as misleading and factually incorrect.

By questioning the origins of terrorism from Afghan soil, the Chief Minister is perceived as deliberately creating ambiguity in the national narrative. His request for evidence of terrorism originating from Afghanistan is viewed by many as highly irresponsible and regrettable, particularly as Pakistan has provided authentic evidence of such activities to the Taliban regime on several occasions.

The claim that neighboring countries have not mentioned terrorism originating from Afghanistan is contrary to established facts. It is a widely recognized reality that Afghanistan has become a haven for various terrorist organizations, a situation that has caused significant frustration among all its neighbors. For instance, Iran has been actively expelling illegal Afghan refugees due to pressing security concerns. Furthermore, the regional threat was underscored last year when five Chinese workers were killed in two separate attacks launched from Afghanistan into Tajikistan.

International bodies have also raised the alarm. China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, warned that groups including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are active on Afghan soil and involved in attacks on neighboring nations. This is supported by reports from the United Nations and human rights organizations which declare Afghanistan a hotbed of terrorism. A recent United Nations Security Council report confirms that ISIS, TTP, Al-Qaeda, and Jamaat Ansarullah remain active in the region. The TTP, in particular, has emerged as a major threat, having launched approximately 600 attacks in Pakistan during 2025 alone.

International journals such as Eurasia Review and The Diplomat have echoed these findings, describing Afghanistan as a global terrorist haven with undeniable evidence of its transformation into a center for international terrorism following the Taliban’s return to power. Reports even link an Afghan citizen involved in the killing of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., to terrorist networks operating within Afghanistan.

Experts note that 70% of terrorist attacks in Pakistan involve Afghan nationals, providing authentic evidence that supports Pakistan’s global position. With key leaders of extremist groups like Noor Wali and Gul Bahadur present in Afghanistan, analysts suggest that the Chief Minister’s dismissive stance indicates a soft spot for these elements, which directly contradicts the overwhelming evidence provided by international intelligence and security organizations.
