Pakistan signs MoU with World Liberty Financial on digital payments
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Government of Pakistan and World Liberty Financial to collaborate on innovation within the digital payments sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and the Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), alongside other senior officials.
In a separate engagement, a delegation from World Liberty Financial, led by Chief Executive Officer Zachary Witkoff, met with the Prime Minister to discuss strategic cooperation. During the meeting, the prime minister briefed the delegation on the “Digital Pakistan” vision, emphasizing that digital connectivity, transparency, and public access remain the government’s top priorities. He noted that digital payments and financial innovation are critical pillars of a modern digital economy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the growing global interest in Pakistan’s digital financial markets, stating that the country is rapidly integrating into the global digital finance ecosystem.
On his part, Zachary Witkoff expressed a strong interest in partnering with Pakistan to develop a secure and transparent digital payment infrastructure. This collaboration is set to include innovations in cross-border settlements, as well as the optimization of foreign exchange acquisition and payment processes.
