Gul Plaza Fire Latest Update: Which Roads Are Blocked Today?
At least 14 people have lost their lives, and many others are still missing after a massive fire at Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi. The fire broke out late Saturday night and caused huge damage to the building.
On January 19, 2026, rescue teams entered the burned structure again to search for missing people. Because of this operation, severe traffic jams have been reported in the area. Road authorities have issued an important update about road closures in the city.
Fire Details and Damage
According to officials, the fire likely started due to a short circuit on the ground floor of Gul Plaza. The fire continued for more than 33 hours and destroyed over 1,200 shops, causing losses of more than Rs3 billion.
Although the fire has now been controlled, smoke is still present. Heavy machinery is being used to stabilize the weak structure, as there is a risk of collapse.
Most of the victims reportedly died due to suffocation. Families of missing persons are waiting outside the plaza, hoping for news about their loved ones.
