Gul Plaza Tragedy: Sindh Government Announces Rs10 Million Compensation for Victims’ Families
Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident that took place in Gul Plaza, has announced a compensation of Rs 10 million each for the families of the deceased.
Initial cause of fire revealed
Talking to the media, the Sindh Chief Minister said that according to initial investigations, the fire in Gul Plaza was caused by a short circuit. He said that the fire broke out at around 10:15 pm on Saturday night, which engulfed the entire building in no time.
Casualties and Missing Persons Situation
According to Murad Ali Shah, 15 people have died so far in this tragic accident, while 65 people are still missing. He said that many families have been badly affected by this tragedy and the government will not leave the victims alone.
Building severely damaged, likely to be demolished
The Sindh Chief Minister said that about 40 percent of the Gul Plaza building has been completely destroyed. He said that the current condition of the building is dangerous and after the opinion of experts, it is possible that the entire building will have to be demolished.
Alternative arrangements announced for shopkeepers
Murad Ali Shah said that there were about 1,000 shops in Gul Plaza. The government is also considering the possibility of providing shops elsewhere to the affected shopkeepers so that their livelihood can be restored.
When will the payment of relief money start?
According to the Sindh Chief Minister, the process of paying compensation to the families of the deceased will start tomorrow, so that immediate relief can be provided to the affected families.
Announcement to form an inquiry committee
The Sindh government has also announced the formation of an inquiry committee headed by the Commissioner Karachi to conduct a complete investigation into the incident. The Sindh Chief Minister said that the purpose of the inquiry is not only to identify those responsible but also to make reforms to prevent such accidents in the future.

Murad Ali Shah said that the Gul Plaza incident is extremely regrettable, the government will not remain silent on this tragedy and any mistake or omission that comes to light will be corrected.
