Gul Plaza Demolition Deferred Until All Missing Persons Found: DC South

Karachi: Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso has said that as long as there is a single missing person, the building cannot be demolished, and when everything is complete, the entire building will be demolished.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso said that the rescue operation is continuing for the fifth day in Gul Plaza and we are trying to identify the bodies as soon as possible.

He said that the death toll has reached 28, while 17 people who were pulled from the rubble have yet to be identified, the identification process for 11 people has been completed, and 85 people are missing and the search is ongoing.

DC South said that the location of the 39 missing people has been identified in the Gul Plaza building, but there are some parts of the building that we have not been able to reach. Debris is being removed from the collapsed parts of Gul Plaza, both mechanically and manually, but there are difficulties in lifting the collapsed part of the building.

He further said that there is still smoke and heat inside the building, so cooling is currently being done in the building. A search has been conducted wherever possible, and the rescue and search operation is ongoing, taking technical issues into account.

DC South said that 85 people are on the missing persons list, some of which have been duplicated, and they are being checked. No haste is being taken because this is a matter of human lives. As long as there is a single missing person, the building cannot be demolished, and when everything is complete, the entire building will be demolished.

Javed Khoso said that the Rampa Plaza located nearby has been temporarily closed and that the SBCA has been asked for maps of Rampa Plaza and other things.
