Punjab Expands “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” Scheme for Joint Families

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a significant expansion of its flagship housing programme, “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar”, now aimed at supporting joint families across the province.

Under the updated scheme, eligible families can access interest-free loans with easy instalments to upgrade and expand their existing homes. The government says the move is designed to strengthen traditional joint family structures while improving living conditions.

CM Maryam Nawaz Calls It a “Golden Gift”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif described the expanded scheme as a “golden gift” for the people of Punjab. She highlighted that the programme focuses on increasing living space for joint families without compromising shared arrangements, emphasizing housing development as a top social welfare priority.

160,000 Homes Targeted by June 2026

The provincial government aims to construct 160,000 houses by June 2026 under this housing roadmap for low- and middle-income families.

In addition, work continues on “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar”, a complementary programme providing plots to those who do not own land, along with interest-free financing for house construction.

Plot Allotment Through Lottery System

In the first phase, 1,534 plots will be distributed via a lottery across several districts, including:

  • Jhelum: 194 plots

  • Kasur: 129 plots

  • Faisalabad: 84 plots

  • Lodhran: 59 plots

Registration and Progress Update

Officials report 1.88 million registered users under the programme, with over 1.06 million applicants awaiting benefits.

  • Houses completed: 67,197

  • Units under construction: 53,843

  • Loan disbursement: Rs164.66 billion

  • Recovery rate: 99%

CM Orders Faster Payments and Safeguards

CM Maryam Nawaz instructed authorities to speed up instalment releases, enhance funding availability, and introduce policies ensuring housing assistance continues for dependents if the primary applicant passes away.
