Sindh Education Department Issues Winter School Timings Notification

25 January, 2026 19:11

The School Education and Literacy Department has announced an extension of reduced school timings across Sindh as the cold wave continues to affect the province. Under the revised schedule, all public and private educational institutions will continue to start classes at 9am until February 4.

Earlier, on January 10, the Sindh Education Department had issued a notification revising school timings, directing schools to begin at 9am while maintaining existing closing hours. The latest notification confirms the continuation of this arrangement, stating: “In continuation of this department’s notification of even number dated 10th January 2026, the timing of all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department, government of Sindh, shall continue till 4/2/2026.”

According to a spokesperson for the education department, the decision was taken in view of the intensified cold weather prevailing across Sindh. The extension has been implemented on the directives of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.

It is pertinent to note that the revised timings had already been extended once, initially set to remain in effect until January 26, due to the severity of the cold wave.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of further cold conditions. The Met Office stated that temperatures in Karachi could drop to single digits over the weekend, with cold and dry weather expected to persist, accompanied by occasional winds. Additionally, the PMD has forecast rain and snowfall in various parts of the country from Sunday through Tuesday.
