Basant Celebrations Halted in Wake of Islamabad Suicide Attack
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has cancelled all her scheduled Basant-related events following the tragic suicide attack in Islamabad. The Chief Minister announced that in the wake of this national tragedy, the mega Basant show at Liberty Square and other personal activities related to the festival stand cancelled.
In a statement released on X, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the nation should unite against the “Khawarij” and their facilitators. She asserted that there will be no mercy for terrorists and reaffirmed her administration’s unwavering support for the armed forces, stating, “We stand by our forces.”
In the wake of the Islamabad tragedy, I am cancelling all my Basant-related activities that were scheduled for tomorrow. The mega Basant show at the Liberty Square also stands cancelled.

The Chief Minister also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the Tarlai neighborhood and directed that emergency medical aid, including 25 fully equipped ambulances, be dispatched to the federal capital to assist the victims.
