Funeral Prayers Held for Tarlai Mosque Khadijat-ul-Kubra Blast Martyrs in Islamabad
The collective funeral prayers for the martyrs of the Tarlai Mosque Khadijat-ul-Kubra have been offered on Saturday, GTV News reported.
According to reports, the prayers took place at the Jamiat-ul-Sadiq Imambargah and were attended by a large number of citizens.
Earlier today, a suicide bombing in the Tarlai neighborhood of Islamabad on Friday martyred at least 31 people and injured over 160 others, according to official reports. The nation’s leadership has issued a strong condemnation of the attack, which struck during the start of Friday prayers.
Police sources indicate that terrorists associated with Fitna al-Khawarij, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban-Pakistan (TTP), targeted the Masjid Khadijat-ul-Kubra. Security authorities, who recently killed 24 militants from the group, identified them as an Indian proxy militant organization.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to local media noted that the attackers began firing at the scene before the suicide bomber detonated his explosives. The bomber was reportedly apprehended at the entrance of Masjid Khadijat-ul-Kubra but managed to move past the guards during the exchange of gunfire. The interior gate of Masjid Khadijat-ul-Kubra is located approximately thirty meters from the main entryway, and the attacker ran roughly twenty meters inside as the service was beginning before blowing himself up.
Following the devastating explosion, the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and local law enforcement cordoned off the area to facilitate rescue efforts. The high number of casualties has put an immense strain on local medical facilities. The administration at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) stated that it has reached its capacity to accommodate the deceased and injured, forcing the transfer of many victims to hospitals in Rawalpindi and other neighboring areas.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon confirmed that an emergency has been declared at PIMS, the Polyclinic Hospital, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) hospital. Assistant commissioners have been deployed to these locations to monitor the medical care and treatment of the survivors.
