Imran Khan claims only 15% vision remains in his right eye; Medical Report Submitted to SC

Imran Khan claims only 15% vision remains in his right eye
PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has told the Supreme Court that he has lost most of the vision in his right eye and can now see only 15 percent, according to a medical report.
The details were shared in a seven-page report prepared by senior advocate Salman Safdar, who was appointed by the Supreme Court as amicus curiae. He met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail and submitted his findings to the court.
Blood Clot Caused Serious Eye Damage
According to the report, Imran Khan said doctors diagnosed a blood clot in his right eye, which caused severe damage. Despite receiving treatment, including an injection, his eyesight did not recover.
Imran told the court-appointed lawyer that until October 2025, he had normal vision in both eyes. He later developed blurred and hazy vision, which continued for months.
He claimed he repeatedly informed jail authorities about the issue, but no serious medical action was taken.
Sudden Loss of Vision and Late Treatment
The report states that Imran Khan later suffered a sudden and complete loss of vision in his right eye. He was then examined by Dr Muhammad Arif, an ophthalmologist at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
Doctors confirmed that a blood clot had already caused significant and irreversible damage.
The PTI founder was recently shifted to PIMS for an eye procedure. His party claimed that neither his family nor party leaders were informed before the treatment.
Lawyer Observes Distress During Jail Meeting
Advocate Salman Safdar wrote that Imran Khan appeared deeply disturbed and emotionally affected during their meeting.
He noted that Imran’s eyes were watery and that he repeatedly used tissues. This, he said, reflected both physical pain and emotional stress caused by delayed treatment.
For nearly three months, Imran said he was given only eye drops, which failed to improve his condition.
Other Medical Concerns Raised
The report also highlighted other health issues. Imran Khan said that despite being 73 years old, he has not been examined by a dentist in two years, despite repeated requests.
He added that his personal doctors, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Asim Yusuf, were earlier allowed to see him, but later requests for consultations were ignored.
He also said that regular blood tests, necessary due to his age, were not conducted.
Claims of Restricted Family and Legal Access
Imran Khan told the court that he has been denied regular access to his lawyers and family members.
He said that for the last five months, he has not met his lead counsel, despite having multiple cases at bail, trial, and appeal stages. Because of this, he claimed he could not give proper legal instructions.
He also said his sisters and other close family members were not allowed to meet him. Only after a change in jail administration was he permitted to meet his wife once a week for 30 minutes, every Tuesday.
Limited Contact With Sons Abroad
The PTI founder further stated that despite court orders, he was allowed to speak with his sons Qasim and Suleman, who live in the UK, only twice during 2025.
Daily Routine Inside Adiala Jail
According to the report, Imran Khan wakes up and has breakfast around 9:45am. He then recites the Holy Quran for about an hour.
He performs light exercise using limited equipment, including a stationary bike and weights. He is allowed short walks inside a secured area during the day.
Lunch is taken between 3:30pm and 4:00pm. He remains locked in his cell from early evening until the next morning.
His meals are self-financed by his family and include chicken, meat, lentils, and light snacks. For dinner, he usually eats fruit, milk, and dates.
Supreme Court to Review Medical Findings
The Supreme Court is reviewing the report as part of a case related to Imran Khan’s jail conditions and medical care. Further directions are expected after examining the findings.
