13 Killed, Several Injured in Karachi M9 Motorway Trailer Crash

13 February, 2026 17:29

KARACHI: Authorities say that an oil tanker and a passenger bus collided on the M9 Motorway at Ansari Bridge, close to DHA City, resulting in 13 fatalities and 9 injuries.

Significant amounts of oil spilled onto the M9 Motorway following the accident, making it difficult for rescuers to use electrical equipment since they were afraid of a fire. In order to recover the bodies of the injured, they were forced to painstakingly disassemble the cars.

Dr. Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, the Malir Superintendent of Police (SSP), informed Dawn that nine people were hurt and thirteen people had killed in the disaster. According to him, the preliminary inquiry revealed that the passenger bus was headed for Sanghar, while the oil tanker was headed for Karachi.

According to him, the collision occurred because the bus was traveling in the incorrect direction. Consequently, he added, the oil tanker capsized and landed on the vehicle.

According to the police officer, the rescue operation was finished, but the oil tanker was still being cleared of flammable materials.

Four vehicles were involved in the fatal accident: an oil tanker, a passenger bus, a passenger van, and a trailer carrying goods, Rescue 1122 spokeswoman Hassaanul Haseeb Khan told Dawn. Additionally, he supported the SSP’s claim that the passenger bus was heading in the wrong direction.

But according to a statement from Motorway police, the oil tanker’s tire burst, causing the collision. The four automobiles’ involvement in the collision was also verified in the statement.

In the meantime, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered an investigation to determine the accident’s cause and expressed regret for the lives lost in the tragedy.

He promised in a statement that anyone responsible would face consequences. In order to protect the public, he also oversaw the rigorous enforcement of traffic laws.

Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, the Sindh Home Minister, said in a statement that he was deeply saddened and grieved by the disaster. Lanjar gave officials instructions to make sure the injured received the best medical care available right away.

In the meantime, the President’s Secretariat released a statement expressing President Asif Ali Zardari’s profound sadness and grief over the catastrophe.

It stated, “The president offered sincere condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the forgiveness of those who lost their lives in the incident.”

The statement went on to say that President Zardari prayed for the injured people’s quick recovery and gave the Sindh government instructions to make sure the accident victims received the best medical care available right away.
