Former MPA Zaeem Qadri passes away after heart attack

LAHORE: Senior politician and former Syed Zaeem Qadri passed away on Friday in Lahore at the age of 60 due to a heart-related illness, according to reports.

Family sources said he had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Lahore for the past three days, but unfortunately, he could not recover.

His funeral prayers will be held today at 6 PM on Lawrence Road, Lahore, with political leaders, lawyers, social figures, and citizens expected to attend in large numbers.

Political and Social Career

Zaeem Qadri was a well-known lawyer and politician. He served as a Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 2008 to May 2018. He also held the position of Executive Member of Lahore Gymkhana Club, showing his active role in Lahore’s social and political circles.

Before leaving the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in 2018, he was a key party figure. During his career, he served as a provincial minister, an adviser to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and as a spokesperson for the Punjab government.

Early Life and Education

Born on December 25, 1964, in Lahore, Zaeem Qadri came from a prominent legal and political family. His uncle, Syed Shamim Hussain Qadri, was Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court and also active in politics.

He earned his LL.B in 1988 from Quaid-e-Azam Law College and completed an MBA in 1991 from the Canadian School of Management Sciences. He was married to fellow politician Uzma Qadri.

Political Journey

Zaeem Qadri entered electoral politics after winning a by-election in June 2008 from PP-154 (Lahore-XIII) with 8,211 votes. He was re-elected from the same constituency in 2013.

In November 2016, he joined the Punjab cabinet as Provincial Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs. In June 2018, he resigned from PML-N and announced he would contest the general elections as an independent candidate.

Zaeem Qadri will be remembered for his contributions to Punjab’s politics, law, and social circles.
