Senior politician and former Punjab Assembly member Zaeem Qadri passed away today after a brief illness. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the past three days due to a heart condition. His funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be held today, Friday, February 13, at 6:30 PM at 36 Lawrence Road.

Zaeem Qadri is survived by his wife, Syeda Uzma Sadaf Qadri, and their son Syed Ali Qadri. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s political and social circles. Friends, colleagues, and well-wishers have expressed grief over the loss of a prominent political figure.

Zaeem Qadri’s Political Career

Before retiring from active politics in 2018, Qadri was a key figure in the Pakistan Muslim League (N). He held important positions, including provincial minister, advisor to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and spokesperson for the Punjab government. He was also Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs from 2016 to 2018.

Qadri earned his LL.B in 1988 from Quaid-e-Azam Law College and an MBA in 1991 from the Canadian School of Management Sciences, combining legal and business expertise. He faced challenges too, including a brief imprisonment in 2006 over protests related to the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy.

In 2018, he left PML-N and contested the general election as an independent candidate, following a tense rivalry with Hamza Shahbaz. His departure was one of the most notable events in Punjab politics that year.
