Police clash with Jamaat-e-Islami supporters at Sindh Assembly

14 February, 2026 19:50

Karachi saw a tense situation as Jamaat-e-Islami supporters gathered outside the Sindh Assembly. Several workers reached the assembly gates, but police tried to stop them.

During the protest, police used batons and fired tear gas to control the crowd. There were clashes and pushing between protesters and police. Additional police forces were sent to disperse the workers.

Police also took control of a Jamaat-e-Islami sound system truck and moved it to the police station. So far, 10 party workers have been taken into custody.

MPA Muhammad Farooq and other party leaders sat on the road, insisting on a peaceful sit-in. Muhammad Farooq said Jamaat-e-Islami is a peaceful party and assured that no property would be damaged.

Despite initial talks with authorities, no responsible official was present, so the party’s negotiation team had to wait on the road. Police blocked all routes to the Sindh Assembly, and supporters from different districts continued arriving in organized groups. The situation remains tense, with police and protesters facing off at multiple points, including Urdu Bazaar Signal.
