Imran Khan Undergoes Eye Examination at Adiala Jail

15 February, 2026 17:34

A specialised medical team is currently conducting an eye examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan inside the Adiala prison facility, jail officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to the jail superintendent, the doctors arrived with advanced medical instruments and essential medicines, and a detailed medical report is expected to be finalised shortly. The examination comes after Imran Khan stated that he has lost nearly 85% of vision in his right eye due to a medical condition. The assessment is being carried out in compliance with directives issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Earlier this week, Imran Khan’s legal counsel, Salman Safdar, met him in prison and subsequently submitted a report to the Chief Justice Yahya Afridi-led bench, outlining health-related concerns and formally requesting appropriate medical treatment for his client.

Sources confirmed that an ambulance equipped with eye examination tools is stationed within the prison premises. Jail officials also stated that an initial medical report regarding Imran Khan’s overall health has already been forwarded to the Punjab Home Department.

The report reportedly includes a comprehensive record of vital health indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels and other key parameters. Additionally, a separate assessment specifically addressing the PTI founder’s eye condition has been dispatched from Rawalpindi. Consultancy notes, details of examining doctors, and timestamps of medical evaluations have also been documented and submitted to the authorities.

Prison sources further revealed that on-duty medical staff conduct routine health check-ups three times daily, maintaining a consistent record of vital signs and medical observations. The Punjab Home Department had requested a complete and updated medical evaluation from the Adiala jail administration.

CRVO diagnosis raises concern

The latest examination follows reports from two weeks ago confirming that Imran Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye disorder. CRVO is commonly associated with older age and underlying cardiovascular risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease.

Following the diagnosis, PTI leaders and family members expressed grave concern over his deteriorating health and urged authorities to transfer him to a hospital for specialised care. While the federal government maintains that all necessary medical facilities are being provided in jail, PTI lawmakers and members of the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) initiated a sit-in protest on March 13.

The protest, now entering its third day, is being held at Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House and the Parliament Lodges, with participation from senior opposition figures including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
