Pakistan Weather Alert: Fresh Spell of Rain, Strong Winds and Thunderstorms Forecast From February 16
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting a new spell of rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, across several parts of the country starting February 16, with southern regions expected to be most affected.
According to the Met Office, a westerly weather system is likely to enter the southern parts of Pakistan from Sunday, creating unstable atmospheric conditions. As a result, thunderstorm activity is expected in Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan on February 16 and 17.
Large areas of Balochistan are also forecast to receive rainfall during this period. The PMD has predicted showers along with gusty winds in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Chaman, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Loralai, Khuzdar, Sibi, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Mastung, Barkhan, Musakhel and Kalat.
The approaching system is also expected to impact coastal regions. Rain, strong winds and thunderstorms have been forecast for Awaran, Gwadar, Ormara and Pasni, along with nearby areas.
In Sindh, rainfall is expected on February 17 in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Khairpur. The PMD has cautioned that isolated areas in Sindh may also experience hailstorms accompanied by strong winds.
Parts of southern Punjab, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Bahawalpur, are also likely to receive rain at isolated locations.
Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution during periods of thunderstorms and gusty winds, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas, as the weather system progresses across the region.
