LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a new welfare program called “Maryam Ko Bataain” to help poor and deserving families during Ramadan. The program aims to provide quick financial support to people who are facing money problems in the holy month.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister said that the program will start from the first day of Ramadan. Under this scheme, eligible people can receive up to Rs10,000 as financial assistance within 24 hours.

Maryam Nawaz said that a special helpline, 1000, will be active from the first day of Ramadan. People who need help can call this number to apply. Applicants can also register through a web portal or a mobile app by entering their CNIC number.

She explained that people who are already registered in the Pakistan Social and Economic Relief (PSER) system will receive the money within 24 hours. Those who are not registered will have to complete verification and registration, which may take up to four days.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is a very special time for Muslims, marked by fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

In Pakistan, Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin on February 19 or February 20, depending on the sighting of the moon. The final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
