Islamabad Makes M-Tag Mandatory for Motorcycles From February 20
Islamabad authorities have made M-Tag registration mandatory for motorcycles in the federal capital. The new rule will take effect from February 20, officials confirmed.
The decision was announced by Irfan Nawaz Memon, Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner. He said the step aims to improve security and make vehicle identification easier across the city.
Under the new policy, all motorcycle owners must obtain an M-Tag. This includes regular bikes, ride-hailing motorcycles, and heavy bikes operating in Islamabad.
Motorcycle owners can get M-Tags from 13 designated centers in the city. They must bring their motorcycle registration documents and a valid CNIC at the time of application.
Officials also confirmed that ride-hailing motorcycles, including services like Bykea, will be registered separately to ensure full integration into the system.
Authorities said the M-Tag system for cars has already shown positive results. More than 600,000 vehicles in Islamabad have been issued M-Tags so far.
The administration believes extending the system to motorcycles will help improve traffic control, enhance urban security, and support law-enforcement agencies in tracking vehicles more effectively.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate with authorities and complete their motorcycle M-Tag registration before the deadline to avoid any issues.
