Islamabad, February 21, 2026: Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were shaken on Saturday as a moderate earthquake struck the region. The tremors were also felt in nearby areas including Sawabi, Haripur, Khanpur, and other surrounding towns.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. The earthquake’s epicenter was recorded near the northern region, and it lasted for a few seconds.
Many residents reported feeling their homes and offices shake. Some people rushed outdoors as a precaution, while local authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.

Seismologists explained that such moderate earthquakes are common in northern Pakistan due to the movement of tectonic plates in the Himalayan region. They also advised people to remain calm and follow safety measures.

Officials from the Pakistan Seismic Center advised:
