Dhabeji Power Breakdown Causes 72-Inch Pipeline Rupture, Water Supply Disrupted in Karachi
A major 72-inch diameter water pipeline burst following a power outage at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, leading to widespread disruption of water supply across several areas of the city.
The rupture occurred after an الكهرباء failure halted four pumps at the Dhabeji facility, affecting pipeline number 5 operated by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC). As a result, water distribution to multiple neighbourhoods was suspended.
Sources revealed that this is the fourth time in the past two weeks that the same pipeline has suffered damage, allegedly due to the use of substandard materials in previous repair work.
A spokesperson for the water corporation stated that restoration efforts are underway and assured residents that the repair process would be completed within 24 hours, after which normal supply would resume.
Residents have repeatedly faced interruptions in water availability, largely attributed to the lack of a stable power supply to critical water infrastructure at Dhabeji, raising concerns over long-term reliability and maintenance standards.
