Protesters Clash with Police Near US Consulate in Karachi

01 March, 2026 13:20

At least five people were injured on Sunday as clashes erupted between police and demonstrators protesting against US and Israeli strikes on Iran outside the US consulate in Karachi, according to rescue officials.

The protesters gathered on MT Khan Road and attempted to enter the consulate premises, throwing stones. In response, the police resorted to “heavy shelling” to control the situation. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Law enforcement agencies, including the police and Rangers, have intensified security in the area to prevent further violence and ensure public safety.

The protest caused significant traffic disruptions, with authorities closing the road from Sultanabad leading towards Mai Kolachi. Karachi traffic police diverted vehicles from Jinnah Bridge to II Chundrigar Road, redirected traffic from Boat Basin at Mai Kolachi Phatak, and sent vehicles from PIDC back.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has sought details of the incident from the Additional IG Karachi. In a statement, he said, “no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.” Lanjar also directed authorities to strengthen security at sensitive installations across the province.
