Ten Dead, Dozens Injured in Karachi as Protests Over Khamenei’s Martyrdom Spread Across Cities
In Karachi, protesters gathered outside the United States Consulate General Karachi and tried to move towards the building. Some people threw stones, and police responded with tear gas and other forceful measures to control the crowd.
The clashes left at least 10 people dead and 36 injured.
Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso said the injured and deceased were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi. The dead were identified as Kazim, Mubarak, Adeel, Abbas, Sajid, Khawar, and Mohammad Ali, while two people have not yet been identified.
Hospital officials said injuries were caused by gunfire, baton charges, and stampedes during the violence. Dr. Sabir Memon, head of the Trauma Centre at Civil Hospital, said eight bodies were first brought in, and 20 injured people were under treatment. One of the injured later died.
The violence also badly affected traffic. Roads from Sultanabad to Mai Kolachi were closed, causing heavy congestion. Karachi traffic police diverted vehicles from Jinnah Bridge to II Chundrigar Road, gave U-turns at Mai Kolachi Phatak for traffic from Boat Basin, and sent vehicles from PIDC back.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar asked for a full report from the Additional IG Karachi and said no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
In Islamabad, a rally against US and Israeli attacks on Iran became tense near Serena Chowk on Embassy Road. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached the spot and urged protesters to stay peaceful.
In Lahore, the Ittehad-e-Ummat Forum held a rally to protest the martyrdom of Khamenei. Police used tear gas when the situation became tense.
In Peshawar, police stopped protesters from marching toward the US Consulate.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, all roads leading to the Red Zone, where parliament and diplomatic missions are located, were closed. The district administration imposed Section 144, banning all public gatherings. Officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone who violated the orders and advised citizens not to take part in protests.
