Pakistan Intensifies Diplomatic Efforts to De-Escalate Middle East Conflict, Says DPM Ishaq Dar

02 March, 2026 23:24

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Monday that Pakistan is urging all parties involved in the escalating Middle East conflict to prioritise dialogue and diplomacy over further confrontation.

The regional crisis has widened, with Israel carrying out attacks on Iran and Tehran responding by launching missiles and drones at what it described as “US interests and bases” across Gulf states.

Addressing members of the diplomatic corps in Islamabad, Dar stated that Pakistan is actively engaged in efforts to ease tensions and prevent further escalation. “We are passing through difficult times in terms of diplomacy. All our efforts are focused on reducing tensions and bringing the parties back to the negotiations,” he said.

He emphasised that negotiations and diplomatic engagement remain the only viable path forward, adding that Pakistan is closely monitoring developments in Iran. “Pakistan supports the efforts for the peaceful settlement of disputes through diplomacy,” he added.

Referring to the ongoing hostilities, Dar noted that one Pakistani citizen was killed in an attack in the United Arab Emirates. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to maintain cordial and friendly relations with all neighbouring countries.

Speaking about Palestine, Dar stated, “Pakistan has been a contributor to resolving the situation of Gaza.” He also mentioned that a group of Arab and Islamic nations had engaged in meaningful discussions with US President Donald Trump to help restore peace in Gaza and ensure the continued delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The deputy prime minister further recalled his recent visit to Afghanistan, where he held extensive discussions with Taliban leadership on trade and economic matters. He stressed that Pakistan has urged Afghanistan not to allow its territory to be used for terrorism. “We have solid evidence that the soil of Afghanistan was used for terrorism,” Dar said.
