PM Shehbaz Chairs High-Level Security Meeting Amid Regional Tensions
ISLAMABAD: In view of growing regional tensions between the US, Iran, and Israel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting on Sunday to assess the nation’s security status.
The meeting was attended by key civil and military authorities, federal ministers, and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
A thorough evaluation of recent events, including cross-border incidents between Pakistan and Afghanistan and more general regional dangers, was carried out by the participants.
South Asia is more unstable after Iran’s retaliation strikes, known as “Operation Wa’d-e-Sadiq Four,” in reaction to combined US-Israel attacks, known as Operation Epic Fury, officials said.
Along with an assessment of current border security measures, such as “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq” along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, discussions centered on Pakistan’s role in fostering regional peace.
Briefings on internal security measures at strategic sites across the nation were also included in the meeting. Authorities also went over measures for the safe departure of Pakistani nationals from Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described current initiatives to make evacuations through Azerbaijan easier.
The government and people of Pakistan are expressing their sympathies to the Iranian people during their time of sadness and loss, PM Shehbaz had previously stated. In his X statement, the premier expressed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies on the martyrdom of His Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei. He stated that Pakistan is concerned about the breach of international law [during the combined US-Iranian attack on Iran]. “We pray for the departed soul,” he continued. May Allah Ta’ala give the Iranian people the endurance and fortitude to endure this irreversible tragedy.
Given the current internal and regional circumstances, the premier has decided to postpone his official visit to Russia, which was originally planned for next week. According to a statement posted on the Government of Pakistan X handle, the prime minister’s visit is very important for improving bilateral relations between the two nations, but it has been postponed because of the current severe situation. “After mutual consultation, the revised visit date will be announced later,” the statement continued.
