Major Roads in Karachi Closed for Third Day Amid Security Alert

04 March, 2026 09:36

Karachi, Wednesday, March 4, 2026: Several important roads in Karachi remained closed for the third consecutive day as security remained tight across the city. The restrictions were imposed after violent protests broke out on Sunday following the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Authorities said the situation is sensitive. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert in many areas.

Protests Near US Consulate Turn Deadly

The protests turned violent outside the US Consulate Karachi earlier this week. Eleven protesters lost their lives during clashes. Several others were injured and shifted to nearby hospitals.

Police officials said investigations are ongoing. Extra personnel have been deployed to prevent further unrest.

Key Routes Completely Sealed

At Mai Kolachi Road, containers and barriers have been placed near the railway crossing. Only residents and office workers are being allowed to pass after showing their national identity cards. Traffic police are checking vehicles carefully.

The route at PIDC Bridge has also been blocked. Containers are stopping traffic from moving towards Jinnah Bridge and Mai Kolachi.

Roads from MT Khan Road to PIDC and surrounding areas are closed for general traffic. Police and Rangers are stationed at different points to monitor the situation.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

Residents living near Bilawal House and Boat Basin have been advised to use alternate routes.

They can travel through Clifton Bridge and then move towards Metropole Hotel Karachi before reaching II Chundrigar Road. Another option is to pass through Saddar.

Traffic remained heavy on II Chundrigar Road on Tuesday. Congestion continued on Wednesday as more vehicles used the diverted routes.

People coming from Mauripur Road can use Jinnah Bridge and then move towards II Chundrigar Road before heading to Clifton or Defence. Some commuters are also using the road near Kutiyana Memon Hospital to reach connecting streets.

Police Deployment Across the City

Traffic police and local law enforcement officers are present at several checkpoints. They are guiding drivers about diversions. Officials said security has been increased in sensitive areas to maintain order.

Citizens can contact the traffic police helpline at 1915 for the latest road updates.

Authorities have not announced when the roads will fully reopen. For now, the closures continue as part of strict security measures in the city.
