Indonesia Offers to Mediate Iran-Israel-U.S. Conflict
Indonesia has offered to mediate in the Iran-Israel-U.S. conflict while simultaneously reaffirming its support for Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
According to Bloomberg, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is eager to play a diplomatic role in de-escalating tensions in the Middle East. The report notes that while Muslim-majority nations remain united in their desire to prevent the spread of regional war, the Indonesian government’s stance on the Iran crisis has faced significant domestic criticism.
Specifically, the administration has been criticized for its delayed response regarding the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, prompting calls from major religious organizations for a policy review.
Under this internal pressure, President Subianto has indicated that Indonesia is prepared to withdraw from the “Peace Board” established by U.S. President Trump if the initiative fails to benefit the Palestinian cause. According to state media, the President conveyed this message during a meeting with more than 160 scholars. The deputy head of the Indonesian Ulema Council confirmed that the President joined the council to advance the interests of Palestine, and warned that if the body deviates from its commitment to an independent Palestinian state, Indonesia will not hesitate to disengage.
