The Punjab government has decided to extend Section 144 across the province for another seven days, imposing restrictions on public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations. The decision was announced through an official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department.
According to the notification, the restrictions have been implemented due to potential terrorism threats and concerns regarding the maintenance of law and order across the province.
The document cited intelligence reports indicating that large and sensitive public gatherings could become possible targets for terrorist activities. In light of these risks, authorities have taken precautionary steps to safeguard public safety and maintain peace.
Officials from the Home Department stated that the measure aims to prevent any situation that could disrupt public order. Under the directive, individuals will not be allowed to organize public gatherings at open or public places without obtaining prior permission from the authorities.
The notification further stated that the display of weapons has been completely prohibited throughout the province during this period.
However, law enforcement personnel performing official duties will remain exempt from the ban. Additionally, the restrictions will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral gatherings, and court proceedings.
District administrations and police departments across Punjab have been instructed to strictly implement the orders and ensure full compliance.
Authorities confirmed that the restrictions imposed under Section 144 will remain effective across the province for a period of seven days.
