Islamabad roads closure update today as Red Zone Access Restricted
Islamabad, March 13, 2026: Authorities in Islamabad have announced major traffic restrictions across the federal capital as part of security arrangements. According to the Islamabad Traffic Police, access to the Red Zone will be limited throughout the day.
Officials said only Margalla Road will remain open for entry into the Red Zone**, while all other entry points will stay closed. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use alternative routes to reduce congestion.
Major Roads Closed in Islamabad
Traffic police confirmed that several important roads and intersections will remain closed. These include all entry and exit points of Iran Avenue.
The route from Chand Tara Flyover to Srinagar Highway via Serena Chowk will also be fully closed. In addition, the road connecting Aabpara to Shahrah-e-Suhrawardy will remain shut for traffic.
Other closures include the road from Recep Tayyip Erdogan Flyover to Jinnah Avenue, along with Kulthum Plaza Chowk, Seventh Avenue Bridge, Fazal Haq Road, and Geo Chowk.
Authorities also announced closures from Haji Camp Chowk to Islamabad Chowk. On IJP Road, the section between Wheat Godown and Faqir EP Road will remain closed. The service road from Nescam to I-10 will also be shut.
Partial Closures on Key Routes
Traffic officials said Club Road will have a single-side closure from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk. Similarly, Park Road will face partial closures between Shehzad Town and Musharraf Chowk.
Holiday Announced for Educational Institutions
In a related development, the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration announced a general holiday for all educational institutions on March 13.
According to a notification issued by Irfan Nawaz Memon, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, all government and private schools, colleges, and universities in the capital will remain closed for the day.
Authorities have urged residents to follow traffic advisories and cooperate with law enforcement to avoid inconvenience during the restrictions.
