Shalimar Express Collides With Freight Train at Lakha Road Railway Station, Several Injured

A collision between the passenger Shalimar Express and a stationary goods train occurred at Lakha Road Railway Station in Naushahro Feroz District on Sunday, railway officials confirmed.

According to authorities, the accident caused significant damage to the locomotive and two passenger bogies of the Shalimar Express. The freight train was reportedly parked on a loop line at the station when the passenger train collided with its rear section.

Initial reports indicate that the express train struck the hind side of the goods train that had been standing on the loop track. Soon after the incident was reported, police and local administrative officials arrived at the scene to oversee rescue efforts.

Residents from nearby areas also assisted in the rescue operation, helping to pull injured passengers from the damaged train carriages before emergency teams fully arrived.

Officials said the engine of the Shalimar Express became tightly entangled with the freight train’s wagons following the impact, complicating initial rescue operations.

Preliminary assessments suggest the accident may have been caused by a malfunction in the railway’s point or switch system. Railway authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The train’s guard suffered serious injuries in the accident, while the driver and assistant driver survived the collision.

Railway sources stated that relief trains and technical teams were dispatched from Kotri and Rohri to assist at the accident site.

Despite the incident, officials said railway traffic on the line continued and overall train operations were not significantly disrupted.
