Train fares rise after diesel price hike - check details
Monday, March 16, 2026 – Lahore: Pakistan Railways has announced four special train services to help passengers travel home for Eidul Fitr 2026. These trains aim to manage high passenger traffic and ensure smoother journeys during the festive season.
Railway officials said the special trains are introduced to reduce congestion on regular services. They also provide safer and more convenient travel between major cities. Such services are common during peak travel periods like Eid.
First Eid Special Train
The first train will depart from Lahore at 7:30 pm on March 16. It will reach Karachi at 3:45 pm on March 17. Key stops include Okara, Sahiwal, and Khanewal.

Second Eid Special Train
The second service will run from Quetta to Rawalpindi on March 17. Scheduled stops are Sukkur, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, and Lahore.

Third Eid Special Train
Another train will travel from Karachi to Peshawar on March 17, connecting major cities along the route.

Fourth Eid Special Train
The fourth special service will operate from Karachi to Lahore on March 18, helping passengers reach the Punjab region in time for Eid celebrations.

Ticket Fares and Adjustments
Earlier in March, Pakistan Railways increased ticket fares due to rising fuel costs. Economy class fares rose by 5%, while air-conditioned class fares increased by 10%. Cargo train rates have also risen by 20%. These adjustments took effect from Monday, March 9, though advance bookings remain unaffected.
Officials said the fare increase follows a government decision to raise petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre. The ex-depot price of high-speed diesel is now Rs335.86 per litre, up nearly 20%, while petrol prices have increased approximately 17% to Rs321.17 per litre. Despite this, Pakistan Railways said it will absorb additional operational costs for passenger services.
Passengers are advised to book tickets early and check train schedules for all stops to avoid last-minute issues during the busy Eid travel period.
