Sindh CM Approves Rs50 Billion Masterplan to Transform Civil Hospital Karachi
In what officials describe as a significant step towards improving hospital infrastructure in the provincial capital, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has in principle authorized a Rs50 billion master plan to overhaul Civil Hospital Karachi.
Murad Ali Shah accepted a Rs. 50 billion grant for the project from the Sindh government while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s House. It is anticipated that construction on the Abdul Sattar Edhi Medical Tower will start right away.
Supported by a Rs 50 billion provincial government budget, the ambitious project intends to increase the size of the Civil Hospital while maintaining its historical significance.
There are now 2,142 beds in Civil Hospital Karachi. A medical tower, surgical ward, outpatient department (OPD), burns unit, jail ward, and an extra 500 beds are all part of the proposed expansion.
The overall area of the facility will grow significantly. Old buildings and underutilized open areas will be replaced by contemporary vertical towers.
These will include a dedicated medical tower and surgical ward, a new outpatient department, a burns ward, a jail ward, a state-of-the-art mortuary and waste management systems, administrative buildings, and specialized hostels for physicians and nurses.
The plan also suggests widening Yakoob Khan Road and Bezanji Road to increase ambulance access and expedite patient transport in order to reduce traffic congestion surrounding the hospital.
According to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the hospital’s historic identity will be maintained throughout the renovation. He added that old buildings would be safeguarded alongside the new construction and declared, “I will completely restore the heritage building.”
A board made up of experts from the public and commercial sectors will be created to supervise and accelerate the project’s execution, the meeting determined.
