Field Marshal meets Ulema, stresses unity and action against terrorism
Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir has said that violence in Pakistan, on the basis of incidents occurring in another country, will not be tolerated.
Pakistan’s Army Chief Syed Asim Munir met religious scholars from the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi to discuss national security and social harmony.
During the meeting, the army chief highlighted the important role of Ulema in promoting unity and tolerance in society. He said religious leaders can help reduce sectarian tensions and stop the spread of misinformation.
He also warned against attempts to create instability in the country through external support. He said such efforts will not succeed and must be countered with unity and awareness.
Referring to Operation Ghazab lil Haq, the army chief said Pakistan will not allow its soil to be used for terrorism. He added that Afghan territory must also not be used against Pakistan.
He stressed that Pakistan will continue targeted and intelligence-based operations against terrorist groups and their networks, wherever they are operating from.
The army chief also spoke about Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region. He said peace remains a priority, but security will not be compromised.
He urged Ulema to play a strong role in promoting national unity and discouraging extremism. He warned that religious sentiments should not be used to spread violence. He made it clear that violence inside Pakistan over events in other countries will not be tolerated.
The Ulema who attended the meeting supported the army’s stance. They strongly condemned violence in the name of religion and expressed their commitment to peace and stability. They also assured full support to law enforcement agencies in maintaining order in the country.
