19 March, 2026 01:35

On March 19, 2026, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister of Sindh, expressed deep sorrow and condolences following the tragic incident at Mowach Goth, where a wall collapsed, resulting in the loss of 13 lives.

In his statement, Minister Memon confirmed that rescue and relief teams were present at the site and actively engaged in recovery efforts. He assured the public that the rescue operations were ongoing and that emergency services were prioritizing those affected by the collapse.

Memon also highlighted the immediate response from local authorities to address urban cleanliness and drainage systems in the wake of the disaster. He stated, “Emergency measures have been initiated to improve the city’s sanitation and drainage systems to avoid further disasters.”

The Minister further emphasized that the Karachi Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and all relevant administrative officials were personally monitoring the situation and ensuring efficient management of the relief efforts. He acknowledged the challenges presented by fallen trees and electric poles in certain areas, which had caused power outages and slowed down relief work.

In anticipation of the recent weather changes, including heavy rainfall, Sharjeel Memon noted that relevant staff had already been placed on alert to handle emergency situations. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had previously issued directives to strengthen preparedness for such incidents.

The government has mobilized special teams and trucks for clearing sewers, timely disposal of waste, and ensuring proper water drainage in affected areas. Despite some challenges caused by power outages, the relevant authorities are working diligently to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy.
