Government announces diesel subsidy for wheat farmers

21 March, 2026 17:06

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to provide diesel assistance to wheat farmers during the harvesting season, as diesel prices continue to rise.

Officials say this program is part of broader efforts to reduce financial challenges for farmers. The government has introduced fuel distribution regulations to allow Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and his administration to support agricultural work, especially threshing, while promoting energy-saving practices and cost-effective farming techniques.

In addition, fuel subsidies have been set up for registered motorcyclists, helping citizens cope with rising petroleum costs.

A government spokesperson said the diesel assistance will protect farmers from high production costs that could otherwise reduce agricultural productivity in the province. Authorities are working with agriculture departments to ensure support reaches farmers at the peak of harvesting.

While the program has been officially approved, officials are still determining the exact financial assistance and which diesel expenses for threshers will be covered.

Farmers have welcomed the initiative as a helpful step to reduce pressure during the wheat season. Authorities emphasized the importance of energy efficiency, asking farmers to adopt proper fuel management methods so harvesting can continue smoothly without interruptions.
