Pakistan celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with prayers for unity, peace amid Mideast conflict

Pakistan is celebrating Eid ul Fitr across the country today with great joy and religious enthusiasm. Special prayers are being offered in mosques, Eidgahs, and open grounds, where scholars are highlighting the importance of unity, peace, and the true spirit of the festival, especially in the context of ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Eid begins with large congregational prayers, bringing together families and communities. The festival comes after the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims observe fasting, and it is marked by charity, kindness, and support for the less fortunate.
The day starts early in the morning as people gather for prayers. Families wear new clothes, visit relatives and friends, and exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak.” Children receive Eidi, a traditional gift of money, while families prepare special dishes and sweets to celebrate the occasion.
Charity remains a key part of Eid celebrations, with people giving Zakat ul Fitr to help those in need. Special prayers are also being offered for Pakistan’s progress, prosperity, and the unity of the Muslim Ummah.
President Asif Ali Zardari said Eid is a reward for patience, devotion, and sacrifice shown during Ramadan. He emphasized that the day teaches values like piety, self-accountability, and moral purity. He added that true success lies in applying the lessons of Ramadan—such as patience, tolerance, compassion, and justice—in daily life.
He also stressed the need for national unity, constitutional supremacy, and rule of law, saying that the country’s development and stability depend on collective responsibility. He prayed for peace in the region and unity among Muslims worldwide.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended Eid greetings, calling the day a symbol of Allah’s mercy and blessings. He urged the nation to promote harmony, unity, and service to humanity. He highlighted the importance of sharing happiness with underprivileged people and strengthening social responsibility.
The prime minister also expressed concern for people suffering in conflict zones, including Gaza, saying their situation reminds the Muslim world of the need for unity and collective efforts for peace and justice.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s armed forces leadership, including Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, Naval Chief Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, also extended Eid greetings. They emphasized that Eid represents unity, sacrifice, and gratitude, and paid tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel who continue to serve the nation.
They expressed hope that Eid would bring peace, prosperity, and stability to Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah, while acknowledging the support of families of those serving in the armed forces.
