Karachi police to launch crackdown on illegal and fancy number plates
Karachi Police has announced that strict legal action will be taken against owners of vehicles and motorcycles using unauthorised or fancy number plates starting next week.
According to a police spokesperson, a citywide crackdown will begin on 30 March 2026. During this operation, authorities will take action against all vehicles with number plates that are not officially approved by the government.
The police have urged citizens to correct their number plates immediately and ensure that only government-approved plates are used to avoid fines or other penalties.
The spokesperson explained that using non-standard or fancy number plates is illegal because it makes vehicle identification difficult and can create security risks.
Additionally, on the instructions of Additional IG Karachi, Azaad Khan, all citizens have been directed to ensure that only officially approved number plates are installed on their vehicles.
Vehicle owners are advised to comply before the crackdown begins to avoid any inconvenience or legal issues.
