Pakistan delivers US 15-point proposal to Iran for ceasefire

25 March, 2026 16:44

Pakistan has played a key role in delivering a US 15-point draft proposal to Iran, aimed at ending the ongoing war. Diplomatic efforts are intensifying as several regional powers try to bring both sides to the negotiating table.

Pakistan’s Role in Mediation

A senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Pakistan handed over the US proposals to Tehran, marking an important step in diplomacy. Pakistan has emerged as a central channel to de-escalate tensions, helping facilitate dialogue between the US and Iran. The New York Times also reported that Pakistan acted as an intermediary to deliver the draft plan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is “ready and honoured to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks” if both sides agree. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is the main link between the US and Iran, maintaining close ties with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and coordinating sensitive proposals.

Mixed Signals on Direct Talks

Although the draft has been delivered, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan stated that no direct talks between Tehran and Washington are happening yet. He emphasized that countries like Pakistan are working to create a positive environment for negotiations.

Turkey Joins Diplomatic Efforts

Alongside Pakistan, Turkey is helping relay messages between the US and Iran to support de-escalation. These combined efforts are increasing momentum for potential talks.

Key Points of the US 15-Point Plan

Officials briefed on the proposal say it covers:

  • Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, including dismantling key nuclear facilities
  • Halting enrichment of nuclear material on Iranian soil
  • Stopping funding for regional proxy groups
  • Establishing a free maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz to secure oil and gas flows
  • A possible one-month ceasefire to allow detailed negotiations

Iran’s Conditions for a Ceasefire

Iran has its own conditions before entering talks:

  • Guarantees against future attacks
  • Compensation for war-related losses
  • Full control over the Strait of Hormuz
  • No limits on its missile program

Mohsen Rezaei, advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, stressed that the US and allies must account for war damage and avoid interfering in Iran’s internal affairs.

With Pakistan and Turkey actively involved, these diplomatic efforts may pave the way for future negotiations, though formal talks have not yet begun.
