Trump Risks Presidency Over Iran Ground War Plans

27 March, 2026 15:17

As polling data shows broad domestic resistance to a ground invasion in the US-Israeli attack on Iran, US President Donald Trump faces increasing political peril.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and published on Wednesday, 63% of Republicans are in favor of airstrikes against Iran, while only 20% are in favor of deploying US soldiers on the ground.

That means that about two out of ten Republican voters, including some members of Trump’s supporters, support a ground invasion.

pposition to Trump’s increasingly assertive positions is even more noticeable among the general American populace. 62% of respondents to the AP poll are against using US military forces against Iran.

According to the poll summary, “Trump still has deep support among Republicans,” but if the war on Iran continues, he “risks frustrating his voters during a midterm election year.”

This trend is supported by more polling. According to a mid-March Data for Progress study, 68% of participants were against a US invasion of Iran. This opposition was consistent across party lines.

In a similar vein, only 20% of respondents to a Quinnipiac University survey supported the deployment of ground troops, while 74% opposed it.

According to the statistics, there is rising anxiety that the US-Israeli war on Iran could turn into a protracted struggle like to the military invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq in the past.

The majority of Americans, according to survey after poll, are against going to war with Iran on a larger scale and are worried about the long-term effects of doing so, such as economic hardship and military casualties.

These worries are a reflection of voters’ general unwillingness to accept long-term military commitments overseas, especially those that are seen as having no clear end in sight.

With the US president allegedly informing his associates that the war failed to accomplish any of its declared objectives, the Trump administration is frantically trying to clean up its mess.

There are important ramifications for Trump’s presidency. Republican hardline support for military action is still very substantial, but when it comes to the deployment of ground soldiers, the encouragement of such aggression drastically decreases.

Declining approval ratings related to the war on Iran are also highlighted by recent polling. According to a Fox News poll, 62% of people are against Trump in general, and 64% are against the way he has handled Iran.

Donnie Beson, a Trump supporter, testified in the AP poll, saying, “Come on, Trump.” Be concerned about us. We are engaged in a battle that costs billions of dollars every day. “Man, you forgot about the other stuff, and you got to take care of that first,” it seems.

According to the data, Washington’s war on Iran is costing them tens of thousands of dollars per second. Officials, lawmakers, and analysts have stated that the war may end up costing trillions in the long run and hundreds of billions in the short term.

His comments are indicative of a larger feeling among people who are worried that foreign policy concerns might be taking precedence over domestic ones.
