Islamabad Traffic Update for today as diversions placed amid VVIP movement
April 10, 2026 – Islamabad: Authorities have issued a special traffic advisory for Islamabad as high-level foreign officials arrive in the federal capital ahead of expected US-Iran talks.
The plan has been introduced to manage security and traffic flow during VVIP movement across key routes in the city. Citizens have been advised to follow official instructions and cooperate with traffic police to avoid delays.
Major Traffic Disruptions Expected on Key Roads
According to the advisory issued by Islamabad Police, traffic congestion is expected on several major arteries, including the GT Road at different times of the day.
Commuters traveling between Rawalpindi and Islamabad may experience delays and are advised to use alternative routes such as Chakri Road, Chak Beli Road, or the Motorway for smoother travel.
Diversions from Rawalpindi and Lahore Routes
Travellers coming from Rawalpindi toward Islamabad are being redirected to alternate routes to reduce congestion. Similarly, those traveling from Lahore toward Peshawar via GT Road are also advised to avoid the main highway during peak hours.
Authorities say these diversions are temporary but necessary due to security arrangements linked to the high-level diplomatic activity in the capital.
Zero Point and Faizabad Traffic Plan
Vehicles approaching Zero Point from Faizabad will be diverted to 9th Avenue. Motorists coming from sectors F-6, G-6, and G-5 heading toward Rawalpindi will also be required to use 9th Avenue as an alternative route.
Partial restrictions have also been placed on Srinagar Highway, where movement will remain controlled throughout the day.
Additional Route Adjustments
Traffic coming from Faisal Avenue toward Zero Point will follow designated diversions. Meanwhile, motorists traveling from Murree Road toward Islamabad are advised to use Service Road and 9th Avenue to avoid congestion.
Similarly, vehicles traveling on GT Road from Peshawar to Lahore are recommended to take the Motorway for faster and uninterrupted travel.
Authorities Urge Public Cooperation
Traffic officials have urged citizens to plan their travel in advance and follow instructions from on-ground personnel. They also assured that the situation will return to normal once VVIP movements are completed.
