The Shalimar Express, traveling from Karachi to Lahore, narrowly avoided a major accident near Sheikhupura.
According to reports, a middle carriage of the train derailed while passing through the Lahore–Faisalabad railway section, forcing the line to be closed for traffic.
Eyewitnesses said the train driver continued moving the train at high speed for about six kilometers after the issue occurred. The derailment happened near Farooqabad Railway Station while a track switch was being changed.
As a result, a six-kilometer section of the railway track was partially damaged. Around 12 carriages, including the affected one, remained on the track after the incident.
The train had earlier continued its journey toward Lahore with only six carriages carrying passengers after the problem was noticed.
Rescue teams were sent from Lahore, while officials acted on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marth. Assistant Commissioner Imran Ali Hurl was also present at the site to monitor the situation.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and repair work on the affected railway section is underway.
