PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan's Commitment to UN Peacekeeping on International Day
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to advancing international peace through its continued and active participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
In a message marking the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, PM Shehbaz stated:Â “Our continued contribution reflects Pakistan’s enduring commitment to international peace and security, as well as to the principles of multilateralism.”
Paying tribute to all serving peacekeepers, he said:Â “Today, Pakistan joins the international community in paying rich tribute to the brave men and women serving under the United Nations flag on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.”
The prime minister noted that this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” highlights the necessity of sustained political will and financial backing for long-term global stability. He also recalled that the day marks the founding of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) — the very first UN peacekeeping mission, which began its work in Palestine in 1948.
Highlighting Pakistan’s historic role, PM Shehbaz said: “Since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 UN peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women peacekeepers.” He expressed deep national pride in Pakistan’s standing as the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping operations globally.
The prime minister paid solemn tribute to the fallen, noting that more than 4,400 UN peacekeepers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty — among them over 181 Pakistani peacekeepers.
Concluding his message, PM Shehbaz declared:Â “Pakistan takes immense pride in its martyrs and in all those brave sons and daughters who continue to serve with exceptional professionalism, commitment, and resolve in promoting peace, stability, and the protection of vulnerable communities across different regions of the world.”
