SSWMB Clears 142,816 Tonnes of Eid Waste in Karachi in Just Three Days
Karachi’s post-Eidul Azha cleanliness campaign has made significant headway, with the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) crediting its real-time complaint management system as a central driver behind the operation’s success across the city.
SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani, addressing media on the progress of the drive, revealed that by the third day of Eid, waste removal teams had cleared a total of 142,816 tonnes of sacrificial waste from across Karachi.
Of the total waste collected, 64,122 tonnes consisted of offal, while the remaining 78,694 tonnes comprised general animal remains and associated waste — all of which were transported to designated landfill sites and approved disposal facilities. The MD confirmed that citywide operations are ongoing and will not conclude until every trace of sacrificial waste has been eliminated from Karachi’s streets and neighborhoods.
A major contributor to the operation’s effectiveness was the SSWMB’s complaint infrastructure. The board’s helpline 1128 remained fully operational around the clock with additional staffing deployed to handle the surge in public queries. Simultaneously, SSWMB officials were stationed at the Rescue 1129 Control Room at the Commissioner Karachi Office, while a dedicated complaint cell at the board’s head office continuously monitored, logged, and acted upon reports from across the city. As a result, more than 90 percent of all complaints received during the Eid period have been successfully resolved.
Nizamani highlighted that the seamless coordination between complaint centers, field response teams, monitoring personnel, and on-ground operational workers was fundamental to sustaining Karachi’s cleanliness throughout the festival.
he stated, noting that the results are a reflection of both disciplined planning and the active cooperation shown by Karachi’s residents throughout the cleanliness drive.
The MD reiterated SSWMB’s firm commitment to maintaining urban sanitation standards across the city and pledged that the Eidul Azha cleanliness operation would be seen through to full completion.
